Wind resistance levels, decoded.
Consumer drones borrow Beaufort-style levels. The table is the useful part; the rest is marketing.

How to read the number
The level is a bucket. Two Level 5 drones can still differ in grams and in how they handle a gust. Treat the m/s figure as the planning cap, then apply a buffer. Drone weather is the other half: height and gusts, not just the badge on the box.
If your remote shows “Level 5” and the field is gusting past 20 mph at head height, the 120 m number is worse. Read what wind resistance means, then run a field check.
Questions
- What does Level 5 wind resistance mean?
- On DJI’s chart it is roughly 10.7–12 m/s sustained. It is a class, not a promise that 12 m/s at 120 m is comfortable. Use the field check against that model’s number.
- Is Level 4 enough to fly in wind?
- Level 4 is about 5.5–8 m/s. Light consumer quads in that class (Neo, Mini 2 SE, Atom) should treat everyday breezes as the working limit, not a target.
- Is a higher level always safer?
- A higher published class usually means a higher ceiling. It does not cancel gusts, rain, or low battery. Compare models on the compare page if you are choosing an airframe for wind.
